Schema Markup: What It Is, Why It Works,
and How to Use This Tool

Schema markup is a vocabulary of structured data tags you add to your web pages so search engines can understand your content at a deeper level. Rather than just reading your text, Google can recognise that a block of content is a recipe, a product with a price, or a frequently asked question — and display it in search results with extra visual elements called rich results.

These rich results can include star ratings, pricing, review counts, cook times, event dates, FAQ dropdowns, and more. They make your listing stand out in search and consistently earn higher click-through rates. Pages with schema markup do not automatically rank higher, but the CTR boost from rich results indirectly improves your SEO performance over time.

This generator creates JSON-LD, which is Google's preferred format for structured data. Unlike Microdata or RDFa, JSON-LD lives in a single script block that does not touch your HTML structure, making it the cleanest and safest way to implement schema on any site or platform.

Which Schema Type Should You Use?

The type you choose should always match the primary content of the page. Adding Article schema to a product page, for example, will not produce rich results and may trigger a manual action. Here are the most impactful types for common website categories.

📰
Article
Use on every blog post and news article. Unlocks author bylines and publish dates in search results.
FAQ
The highest-impact schema for most blogs. FAQ dropdowns expand your listing to 3 to 4 times its normal size in search.
🛒
Product
Essential for eCommerce. Displays price, availability, and star ratings directly in search and Google Shopping.
🏪
Local Business
Critical for any physical location. Displays opening hours, address, phone number, and ratings in local search.
🍳
Recipe
Unlocks rich cards showing cook time, calorie count, and star ratings. Food blogs without this leave traffic untapped.
📋
How-To
Displays numbered steps in search results. Excellent for tutorial content, DIY guides, and instructional posts.
📅
Event
Shows event date, location, and ticket availability in search. Essential for any page promoting a live or online event.
▶️
Video
Unlocks video thumbnails in search results. Any page with a YouTube embed benefits from Video schema.
🟢 Schema Markup Best Practices
  • Only mark up content that is visible on the page. Google penalises hidden schema that describes content users cannot actually see.
  • Use JSON-LD wherever possible. It is easier to implement, update, and debug than Microdata or RDFa.
  • Test every page with Google's Rich Results Test after adding or changing schema to catch errors before they affect your search appearance.
  • Do not nest too many schema types unnecessarily. Start with the primary type for the page and add secondary types only where they genuinely apply.
  • Keep schema data accurate and up to date. Stale prices, wrong addresses, or outdated event dates can trigger manual quality actions from Google.
  • FAQ schema works on almost every page. Adding 3 to 5 relevant Q&A pairs to your blog posts, service pages, and landing pages is one of the fastest ways to expand your SERP footprint.
